Hi performance camshafts are considered by some car owners and bike riders as the ultimate of cool, but choosing the right cam for an engine modification involves many things, from basic understanding of mechanical operation to basic understanding of what you yourself want from your transport.

Using a camshaft to move other parts of a mechanical device is an ancient practice, dating back to the days of classical Greece and early Chinese dynasties. Moving toys and lifelike figurines were made for kings and emperors, and giant statues and idols were made to move by using this principal. Today most think of it as a part of an internal combustion engine.

Stock engines are designed for easy starting, rapid acceleration to cruising speeds, and fuel economy when those speeds have been reached. A quiet engine and a smooth ride are primary goals of a highway vehicle. Motorcycles are also being made these days with an eye to reducing traditional engine and exhaust noise.

There are people who will want a more aggressive ride, however, and those who are interested primarily in racing. These are the ones who will modify their engines with high performance cams; they need to realize that other parts of the car will need to change as well. The engines can also be designed in the first place with high horsepower in mind.

High performance cams are designed to increase horsepower, are made of heat hardened steel, and these days are designed by computers to allow the precise interaction of moving parts that maximizes performance. How long the valves are open (duration), how much overlap there is when both the intake and exhaust valves are open, how many of each kind of valve are being used, the relationship to compression ratio and engine displacement – all of these factors affect horsepower.

There must be careful matching of many factors when changing the cam, which regulates the whole power plant. The compression ratios must be compatible with the duration and the fuel delivery system. Cylinders heads may need to be milled for more volume, and the height of the lift of the head adjusted. Fortunately, there is much customer support from performance parts manufacturers to help people match all the related factors.

They also affect performance, which is a different matter. More duration means more power at medium to high RPMs, but may mean less torque at low RPM speeds. If you are thinking of all-out racing, you will want such modifications as solid cylinders and a gear driven cam if maximum horsepower is your goal.

For street performance, however, you may want acceleration and a quiet idle, as well as less wear and tear on the components for longer engine life. Knowing what is a priority will help you make the decisions about transmission style, compression and gear ratios, carburetor type, exhaust system specifications, timing, and tuning that will result in the performance you want. Compression teat gauge will be an indispensable tool if you are changing to a higher performance cam.

Fortunately, manufacturers of hi performance camshafts are ready to help you make all these choices. A great education can be gotten from product searches and performance magazines.

To find the best deals on hi performance camshafts you should check out car engines site enginefor.com.

1.) You should ensure that the car battery charger is used only in places which have good ventilation. Flammable and possibly explosive gas is emitted when charging is taking place, ventilation will prevent any ignition of the gas.

2.) Ensure that there are no naked flames or persons smoking near to the car battery whilst you are charging it. Equipment that could cause sparking (electric motors for example) needs to be some distance from the charging area.

3.) Metallic tools must be kept from touching across the positive and negative battery connection posts. You should also avoid the tools touching the engine or bodywork and the connection posts at the same time.

4.) When using a car battery charger, it is good practice to connect the charging cables to the battery terminals before switching the charger on. This will avoid any sparking which may ignite flammable gas from the battery.

5.) Be sure to follow the battery charger instructions when the charger is in use. If you are unsure how to use the charger and have no instructions, contact the manufacturer for a new instruction manual.

6.) Safety eye protection and acid-proof gloves must always be worn when opening the cells of the battery for checking the electrolyte or topping up with water. Battery acid can burn skin and eyes, so great care is advisable when opening the battery.

7.) If you are opening the battery cells, have some clean water available to hand. This can be used for rinsing eyes or skin if splashed with battery acid.

8.) Car batteries which have discharged are susceptible to freezing in low temperatures. If there is a possibility that the battery is frozen, thaw it before attempting to charge or it may burst and leak.

9.) Try to use the car battery charger on the lowest possible Amp setting. This will help to extend the battery life and avoid overheating the battery.

10.) Site the charger as far as possible from the car battery. You should also keep pets and people out of the area where you are charging.

There are numerous points to check when shopping around for a used car. When you find a new car among cheap repossessed cars there are several things that you can do to make certain that you will get high value for your hard earned cash. Taking the right steps at the beginning of the process will make it more likely that you reach your desired end.

All sellers, regardless of what they may claim use multiple vehicle value estimation references to set the price of their cars. In order to come to the negotiating table equally armed, you should too. Most of these, including some of the popular reference options can be found online for free. All that you need to get this portion of your investigation started is to have the make, model and year, and to have a pretty good idea about the current condition of the car.

If you are happy with what you know so far, it does not hurt to schedule an appointment to take a look. If you are able to take a test drive then. At this preliminary stage getting both a strong visual inspection of the car and a feel for how it sounds and handles on the road will help you decide if it is worth investing more attention in.

One of the most important things that any auto shopper should do is to have a history report run using the vehicle identification number or VIN on the car. This helps buyers avoid some of the most common scams that are run within the used car business. If the odometer has been rolled back or the car has been in accidents or exposed to water due to flooding, this report will be the most sure method of finding out.

You can also search online for some of the invaluable tools that can be used in used car shopping. Make certain to download a used car checklist. This will ensure that you remember to check all of the pertinent point and do not overlook any minor issues as well, that may make you resent your purchase over the long haul.

Your last leg of your inspection is most easily accomplished when done by or in conjunction with a trusted mechanic. One major thing to be certain of when you are inspecting under the hood is the regular maintenance of the car. All of the fluids should be at their proper level, and have a nice fresh coloration. Low fluid or fluid that smells slightly burnt can indicate leaks, or problems with overheating. Taking notice of these details now can help you keep someone else’s costly issue from becoming your own.

Locating cheap repossessed cars is a necessity in increasingly desperate economic times. Repossessed cars prices help to provide for transportation needs without destroying your budget.

Instead of going to a car dealership and buying vehicles the usual way, have you ever considered visiting a government or police auction? If you’re not aware, the police seize thousands of cars and other vehicles every month and often auction them off to the general public at extremely reduced prices.

Obviously, police auctions are a secret that car dealerships don’t want you to know about. This is because not only is there one less potential customer looking to purchase a vehicle but there is also another bidder competing against him for the cars that are being auctioned.

Yet over 90% of the population still goes to car dealerships to purchase their vehicles. People are simply not aware of the great deals that police auctions have to offer. The government isn’t about to spend any budget publicizing the auctions either. Below is a list of pros of advantages versus disadvantages in buying vehicles at these auctions:

Advantages:

- Business Methodology allows much lower prices.

- No matter where you live, there are typically many auctions held around your area

- Detailed previews on the Internet of the cars and vehicles that will be offered at upcoming auctions

- There is usually a wide selection of vehicles that can be found at government auctions – sports cars, SUV’s, pick up trucks, motorcycles, jeeps, etc.

- No middle tier channel (middleman) to go through or pay

- No annoying commissioned salesperson to deal with

- Seller is motivated and doesn’t want to handle inventory, everything has to be sold!

- Better income tax advantages (run as a business)

- Usually pay less car taxes

- Once you have an understanding of police auctions, you can start your own business (i.e. Sell cars on eBay or Autotrader.com).

Cons:

- Most sales are made in cash so credit is typically not offered

- No warranty (although used car dealerships warranties are for short time periods)

If it’s not a problem paying cash, or you can get credit elsewhere, then the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Just remember to bring a mechanic or car expert who understands vehicles with you to the auction. They will inspect the vehicles that you’re interested in to make sure you get a great deal.

There are literally 100s of fish finders to choose from, and you do not want to spend money on one that you will not get your use out of. Fish finders can be mounted to large boats that will be out in deep waters, or smaller boats for lakes and rivers.

The power source is another point you will need to consider. Determine whether you will need a battery powered fish finder or one that can be plugged in. Look at the life of the batteries on any model you want to purchase.

It is also important to consider how deep the water will be, where you plan on fishing most often. Some of the models can only measure a couple hundred feet. If you are looking for a bigger screen, color, and better resolution, be prepared to pay more.

If you are going to be fishing in shallow waters most of the time, then transmitter power may not be on the top of your priorities when selecting a fish finder. But on the other hand, even if you’re fishing in freshwater, there’s a good chance that mud, sand and vegetation on the bottom will absorb and scatter the sonar signal, reducing the strength of the return echo. In other words, it’s better to be in a situation where you can simply dial back the amount of power you need than to not have enough power when you need it.

A higher frequency usually gives the best detail, and will work best in shallow water. Target definition is also sharper with these higher frequencies. This is the ability to show two fish as two separate echoes instead of one single mass on the screen. In short, it works well for depths of less than 200 feet and when you need to get an accurate reading while moving faster.

Fish finders are a great boon to all fishermen who want to know what is swimming beneath their boats. The basic need or advantage of a fish finder transducer is explicit. The technique employed by a transducer explains the benefit offered by one.

Information relating to a fish finder transducer can sometimes be a little complex to decipher. Transducers come in both high and low frequencies. 50 to 100 kHz is the range of a low frequency transducer. Lower frequency can be equated to greater depths since the sound waves in this case can travel for a long distance. 180 to 200 kHz is the range for a higher frequency model.

A fish finder is made for the angler to be able to identify structure, depth and fish under and, with the new technology, all around the boat. There are two types of fish finder displays or screens: a color or a monochrome fishfinder.

Obviously, the color fish finder is much easier to read. When you look at the screen of the fish finder, it will show 3 colors red, yellow and blue. The blue is the easy one; it is showing the water under the boat. The red on the screen shows the top of the water and anything dense underneath the boat. If you see arches under the red balls it means the fish are pushing the bait towards the water surface.

It uses a highly sensitive digital filtering process that enables the user to troll faster and see the fish that are under and around the boat. Also, in shallow water it cuts through the clutter and makes it easier to see the fish at that shallow water depth. This is the usual depth that the average angler fishes.

If you are in the market for a new fishfinder, it is better to spend the extra money and buy a color model. Not only will it save you time and eventually money, but it will make it much easier to see the fish that are around your boat.

Your auto insurance premiums are calculated by a number of different factors relating to your insurance risk. Each one of these factors can individually or collectively determine the premium that you are charged. If you are aware of these factors, you can sometimes do something about changing things so you can benefit from lower premiums.

1. Verifiable Driver Insurance History

One of the first things that an insurance company will look at is your insurance history. How long you have had insurance for? What has your claims record been? Is the car insured under your name? Sometimes, people say that they have been an insured driver for years but the insurance has been under their parents’ or spouse’s name. This does not provide a verifiable insurance history so insurance companies may be weary about providing you with insurance coverage. If you have had several claims in a short space of time, you will be paying a higher premium than someone who has a claim-free record.

2. Age of the Driver

Many insurance companies will not insure drivers under the age of 21 years because they are a much higher risk group. Having just learned to drive, younger drivers generally driver faster, are less aware of other vehicles on the road, and often do not judge distances very well. They may also be very nervous drivers that cause accidents because they drive too slowly or hesitate when pulling out into traffic. The optimal age for getting the best insurance premiums is 35 years of age.

3. Gender of Driver

While there are many jokes about bad female drivers, the road statistics say otherwise. Men are far higher-risk drivers and involved in accidents far more frequently than women. Often, they are also involved in far more serious accidents because they usually are travelling at high speeds. Female drivers can benefit from discounted premiums, and men will only receive lower premiums if they have a good driving track record.

4. Overnight Storage of Vehicle

This factor relates mostly to the theft-risk factor. It varies between different countries and residential areas. In general, more urban areas have a higher risk than rural areas. Insurance companies prefer that a vehicle is parked off the street, behind a locked gate or in a locked garage. Coastal areas also carry higher insurance premiums because of the humidity and salt in the air that causes corrosion to the working parts of a car. A vehicle that is stored in a garage as opposed to being parked outside will require less maintenance and therefore benefit from lower insurance premiums.

5. Mileage and Use of Vehicle If you are a housewife or work from home, you are unlikely to use much mileage and will therefore benefit from lower insurance premiums. If you commute to work every day, your mileage and road usage increases your risk profile. Your premiums will therefore be moderately higher. If you are a sales rep or use your car for work, it is classified as commercial use and will be the most expensive premium because you are a frequent road user.

6. Make and Model of Car

Next to driver history, this is possibly the biggest factor that will affect your insurance premium. There are two aspects of risk that are affected by the make and model. First, the theft risk. If it is a BMW that is thought of as a highly desirable vehicle, it will therefore be considered a high theft risk. The second risk is accident risk. Is it a vehicle capable of high speeds which would put it at a high risk level?

7. Power to Weight Ratio

Some vehicles have powerful engines yet are not viewed as very high risk. This is because they have a low power-to-weight ratio. A sports car or Mini Cooper is an example of a high power-to-weight ratio vehicle that has fast acceleration. This is therefore viewed as a much higher risk.

8. Cost of Replacement Parts

Some cars are very expensive to maintain, especially if they are not manufactured in your home country. The cost of replacement parts is a big factor in determining your insurance premiums. If parts have to be imported in the event of a claim, this will increase your insurance premiums.

9. Actual Value of Vehicle and Age of Vehicle

A luxury vehicle will naturally carry a more expensive premium than a standard vehicle. However, a vintage or classic vehicle may have a high value but because it is used less frequently, it will have a much lower insurance premium.

10. Vehicle Security Systems

Most modern vehicles have factory-fitted security systems. Some use immobilizers and alarms systems as standard features. If it is a desirable and high-theft risk vehicle then insurance companies may insist on having additional security systems such as vehicle tracking installed in the vehicle.

11. Credit History of Insured Person

This is not always an important factor but it can affect your insurance premiums. If you have a long and detailed poor credit history, you are generally considered to be more of a risk and will have to pay higher premiums.

Ceramic brake pad linings are a relatively new compound in the automotive industry. Cars started becoming equipped with ceramic brake pads inside early 90’s. The ceramic compounds have changed drastically since the primary introduction into the marketplace. Initial concerns with the original ceramic compounds focused within the reduced stopping power with cold brakes, and premature wear inside rotors. This was mainly since the original compound was adapted from automotive racing and when that you’re racing a car the brakes are being treated in a definitely various way than during every driving situation.

Tires, brakes and the engine reach a drastically greater operating temperature in race vehicles and this might be the temperature that the ceramic components were created to operate in. The ceramic materials are now a lot more suitable for every day driving and are considered an upgrade regardless of whether the automobile was originally equipped with semi-metallic, ceramic, or organic pads.

All brake pads perform as essential, meaning they stop your car when you put your foot about the brake pedal. That said, while you may discover positive aspects with all brake linings compounds the only edge that the semi-metallic pad offer is an incredibly low price. Alternatively, Ceramic Brake Pads provide some notable positive aspects. Initial and foremost, the ceramic pad doesn’t produce a visible brake dust that blackens your wheels. If you’ve wheels that you simply might be proud of, i.e. chrome or wheels that cost more than your automobile; you may perhaps be a big fan from the ceramic brake pad. The second advantage could possibly be the decreased tendency to squeal. The ceramic compound doesn’t contain steel fibers; the metal content in some semi-metallic pads was discovered getting the source of brake squeal for some manufacturers.

The ceramic compound commonly lasts longer than a semi-metallic compound, and this is seen as an advantage with most vehicles, mainly because pads commonly wear out quicker than the rotors. Finding an ideal balance in between rotors and pads will be the ideal situation, to ensure that rotors need to become replaced at the same time as the pads do. Ceramics normally support to make this take place, but most automobile brake designs are very various and this really is not typically the case.

Once you happen to be aware of the differences among the two primary brake pads at the market, the selection becomes clear. Should you be replacing the brake pads on your daily drives? Pay the incrementally higher value and purchase the clearly superior ceramic brake pads. Should you be only trying to keep that old beater alive for one more year? Then maybe you will discover the semi-metallic’s to be the quite appropriate and certainly more economical alternative.

Find the most innovative and technologically advanced wagner brake pads, and wagner brake pad available online.
